Free e-books Friday! Episode #4 Whiskey Rebellions

Whiskey Rebellion by Liliana Hart

Free E-Book Fridays episode 4.

In this latest ebook, it takes place in Whiskey Bayou, Georgia, where the humidity is thick, the gossip juicy, and family is everything.  For Addison Holmes, who is the one just trying to get by, while teaching the history class to teenagers isn't really cutting it at all.  She is hungry and thirsty for more than she can chew.  How would we known that the principal from the school she worked at would be seated in the strip club that has hired her? Doesn't seem familiar?

This ebook is available now today on the Nook application for free.  You can download the Nook app from the Google Play Store, App Store and Windows Store.

Why I Am Not Buying the New Nexus 5x Or 6P

NEXUS 5X

The Nexus 5X and 6P are some of the newest midrange and high end phones to be launched right now.  They both will be running android 6.0 right out the box.  We know this year that Google spent a lot of time on bringing these two phones some great quality cameras and great fingerprint scanners.  Thats pretty good and makes them now some competitors towards the other OEMS.  But, dont get me wrong, as of now, they are running the latest processors and memory and both come with USB Type-C. They also are now compatible with Google's Wireless Service,Project Fi.  You can also get a protection plan as well with the two phones and $50 of Google Play Credit.   But, is this really good enough for new users or just Nexus fanboys and Android fanboys alike? For those of you using a iPhone 6s and 6S Plus or Galaxy S6 Edge Plus or Note 5 and G4 user, is this a better upgrade to you?  To me, this isn't really much of an upgrade compared to what I have right now.  Here is why I won't be buying the new Nexus phones anytime soon.

Moto G 2015

In July, Motorola had launched their latest gen of the Moto G and the Moto X.  Moto G and the new Moto X came with a lot fire power at launch.  They both are customizable using the Moto Maker. You can engrave them, swap back covers, emerge them into water for over 30 minutes, front facing speakers, great selfie cameras in the front and great quality in the rear as well.  Both will include a Micro SD card slot that you can hold up to 200GB if you know how to format the cards.  You also can use OTG USB which means on the go memory as well.  Not only all of this, but you even have the choice to choose which 4 major carriers you want to be on a plan with. So pick and choose wisely.  Moto G and X both have stock Andorid and the latest Android versions.  So you dont have to worry about OEMs and their apps and wallpapers taking over the screens and storage.  Lets just be honest, who wants bloatware anymore?  With the Moto G, for causual use, you really can't go wrong.  Also the battery life is wonderful! No complaints about that at all. You also get some neat features as well such as the Moto Assistant and the Moto display and the Moto guestures such as flicking your wrist to open camera and karrate chop to turn on Flash Light.  Now the cons are that it doesnt have NFC, wireless charging and no fingerprint scanner.  But for $150-$200, are you willing to sacrafice the few things that matter today?  Let me know your thoughts.

Google Nexus 6

The Google Nexus 6 has been around for an year now almost it seems.  Do you feel it still lives up to its height?  Now, we all people hate the size of this phone.  We know that.  But, for me as a person that came from a LG G Flex which had a 6 inch curved screen and a 720p display, to me it was still a better upgrade to go with the Nexus 6. Got more RAM usage and memory, a better resolution of 2K! The latest updates from the Android OS.  The Nexus 6 has a better camera and no bloatware, a little smaller batter by 180 Mah.  My Nexus 6 is unlocked for switching to carrier I want based on bands and everything else.  It overall was the better choice at the time.  Even now it still is a better choice to me over the new Nexus 6P.  I have wireless charging and NFC with the Nexus 6. Not only that but I still will be getting Android 6.0 before everyone else and possibly before the new Nexus buyers get the Nexus 6P in hands.  Due a month long pre order shipment.  With the Nexus 6 I also am using the Google Wireless service called "Project Fi".  I can be on Wifi in the house one minute, then heading out on an adventure the next minute and still being able to stay connected thanks to Fi Network being able to switch between T-Mobile's towers and Sprint's towers and identifying Wifi hotspots around in the area.  Sure, it doesn't have the greatest processors or benchmarks and all that stuff in between, but it is still a beast even today as we speak.  No, it doesn't have USB Type-C or a fingerprint scanner.  But there are so many ways I can charge the Nexus 6 up now, thanks to Wireless charging built in and the Moto Turbo charger and the Project Fi 6000 Mah power bank that was including in the Project Fi Welcome Kit.  No, it doesn't have a micro SD card slot.  But you can use the Google Drive Cloud which offers 15GB of storage for free and you can use the app on the phone already because it included.  I also can use OTG USB with just a few minor adjustments by downloading a app or 2 which wont kill my ram or storage and connect my 500GB portable hard drive or my 16GB SanDisk Connect Wireless Stick.  So memory isn't a issue for me at all.  Not only that but you can now pick the Nexus 6 up for only $299 on eBay brand new.

CONCLUSION

In the end, it is really up to you all what you want and need. What are you all willing to give up or not give up to have the most satisifaction out of your smartphone? Is it the screen size, is it the battery life, how about the specs, what about the price range?  There is so many things that one has to consider today when purchasing a new phone. Not only that but which carriers are they compatiable on as well also should play a role.  Well, that sums this all up.  So what phone do you own and why and will you be purchasing the new Nexus or Moto or LG or iPhone or Samsung?

MOTO G 1 MONTH REVIEW

GOOGLE NEXUS 6 8 MONTHS LATER

Periscope App Review

For those of you who dont know by now Twitter has a live streaming app called Periscope.  This app is pretty basic streaming app that allows Twitter users to Live Stream from anywhere in the world where they are located right then and there.  Your Twitter followers can see you live stream when you start recording.  But the users must have the Periscope app in order to get the notification and start viewing.

PROS

You can record in potrait or landscape mode.  You may use your front facing camera or your rear.  The only other options you can do while watching is text the streamer or like their video.  You also can alert your own followers as well so they will know who or what is been stream and so they can join on the conversation or event as well.  I have tried some the live streaming a few times myself.

CONS

I had a little minor issue with my front facing picture showing the viewing upside down and when the recording was complete, it was as if there was nothing wrong.  But did receive an minor update just this past weekend.  So maybe that shouldve fixed my little minor issue.  Now sometimes it will say trying to reconnect during a watching of a live streaming. It will vary of how strong of a data connection or internet connection you have.  For the viewing and picture quality of watching a live streaming, this also depends on your connection. Sometimes I pick up a great picture of a person I am viewing and conversating with and other times it is looking so so, which means not at all great.  When the chat room gets filled up, you wont be able to send a message to the broadcaster. Now I think it is missing some features I think would get more people to use it and sign up for a twitter, is having more than one live person streaming at a time. Sort of the way that Skype and Google Hangouts works.  Also another feature that could be missing is being able to upload right to Youtube or Facebook.  This would be great for users to see and possibly join in on Periscope because they wouldn't be able to see it unless they used Twitter.  Now this definitely should be a feature, just let anyone signup and use this application.  Why do you have to have a Twitter account to be able to fully use this app?

The Verdict

At first, I wasn't too hype about this application at first when it first released on iOS and iPhones. It just seemed like a regular app to me just like how so many people are hooked to SnapChat and Instagram.  But, for a couple of weeks now I have been using this app on my Android device and I was wrong. Thankfully, I am a active Twitter user so it was easy for me to log in and start using it. I have been getting live feeds from all the people i follow the most that are using periscope and being just interacting in a way on some other apps I couldn't do. I mean, of course you have Live streaming on youtube and hangouts but at times, it is hard to get your questions answered or you answering all of the users questions. To me, its addictive and I have been using this app almost more than I used any other app I enjoy on my Nexus 6 or Windows 8.  So if you are a heavy user and participant on Twitter, I definitely recommend this app to you.  For those of you on twitter, you can follow me too @iTechUOutGuy.  So, now I would like to hear you all thoughts about Twitter's Periscope.

Notify Update V 1.8 Review For Android

Notify Beta app is a nice  Heads-Up app for Android. It a notification that floats on screen and disappears in a matter of seconds if you don't reply or respond to the notifications. There are now more than 60 apps that work very well with this application. This notification app won't interfere you with what you are already doing on screen.  You can swipe it away or jump right into the action of the notification. A few months ago, I did a app review on this application. I even was contacted by the developers (Skyler Martin) about it for a follow up. So this is fellow up on how the app has progressed and changed. Now from the past few days it has been working just fine on my Motorola Moto G3 and my Motorola Nexus 6. But the only CON I have seen with this app is that on my Motorola Nexus 6, it uses up 127MB of RAM, but on my Motorola Moto G 3rd Gen, it only took up 27MB. Which is a little odd. But I have reached out to the developer about this and there will  be a patch fixed in the next update.  Other than that, this app is great! It does what it says it will. Thats notify you.  Below are some screenshots in what app looks like and how it works, I will also leave a video below.  For those of you who havent tried this app, I do recommend it.  One more thing, for those of you on Android Lollipop, you will need to download the app called "Heads-Off" to disable the default heads-up settings.
